Specifiers / Contractors

The Industry Competency Exams, formerly the ARI/GAMA Competency Exams, are supported by ARI, Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA), Heating, Airconditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI), Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC), and Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES). The exams measure industry-agreed standards of basic competency for entry-level (one year or less) technicians. Over 300 schools nationwide require student participation in at least one of the Industry Competency Exams to graduate.Statement of Confidentiality. Instructors that teach HVAC are not permitted to proctor the exam; however, they may act as a volunteer examiner if there are more than 25 students in the classroom.


Take the Online Test

The exams can be conducted online through ARI’s online testing center. Chief Examiners will need to log in using their school ID number and password. ICE exams cannot be proctored by the student’s instructor.

School Score Reports

Instructors receive a School Score Report that details the strengths and weaknesses of their exam participants by curricula areas.  The School Score Report is faxed to the schools after the exams have been graded. If you do not receive your score report, please contact ARI’s Education staff at 703.524.8800.
